Native NZ Birds

In term 2 we have been looking and studying NZ native Birds. There are so many beautiful birds in Aotearoa and it was amazing getting to look closer at them and find out what makes them all so special. For art, we decided to make our own versions of some of these birds.

Firstly we got blocks of wood and coat hangers and stapled them together. We then covered the coat hanger with stockings. We bent the coat hanger until we made the shape that we wanted our bird to be.

Secondly we covered the stocking in white paint creating a canvas for our bird.

Next, we sketched the birds shape on the canvas with chalk. We then started layering colours on top, focusing on swish markings to resemble feathers. I even heard kids saying "swish, swish" as they painted.

We are very proud of our birds. We hope you love them as much as we do.

Literacy Day

We had the most amazing time at literacy day 2020! We were encouraged to dress up as our favourite book characters and come and celebrate all things literacy!

There were five categories that we could dress up as.

1. Superhero

2. Fiction

3. Non-Fiction

4. Handmaid

5. Author Inspiration (we have been studying 6 authors in the Middle school so we could dress up like their books)

After our whole school parade we went to the hall and handed out certificates for the winners of each category. Here are some photos of our day!
