BFG Day

In Tui 5 we love to read! We especially love shared reading and being read to. So we decided to join Chapter Chat and have been doing it for almost 2 years. We pick a novel and Mrs Martin reads us chapters every day. At the end of the week we do activities about what we read and it is so much fun. Term 1 we decided to read Roald Dahl's 'THE BFG'.
This was a great story about little orphan Sophie and The BFG (big friendly giant) and their adventure together (stopping the bad giants from eating people and meeting the Queen of England).

On the last day of term, Tui 4 and Tui 5 had a BFG day. We rotated around different stations and did really cool activities. They were:
1. Make your own evil Giant. (The BFG lived with evil giants who eat people!)
2. Make fobscottle (The BFG's favourite drink)
3. Make BFG ears (The BFG had huge ears so he could hear everything)
4. Make dreams (The BFG caught dreams and gave them to children around the world
5. Create Buckingham Palace using lego (That is where the Queen of England Lives)

Constructive play in Exploring

Did you know there are many different types of play? Each week we will look at a different type of play and how it can be learnt in class. We will also look at how play makes our children better learners.

Constructive Play: The intent in constructive play is to produce something created from the imagination. Constructive play can also be with words and sounds, as well as with substances.

Building and making things from pure imagination is truly amazing. Kids are using so much of their brains to make the right structural choices, communicating what is in their heads and making a finished product. Its not just about building with blocks either, its about creating something from your own mind and making it come alive. This includes creating a character and dressing up!

During exploring we have a classroom dedicated to construction. There are blocks, animals, dolls, dress up and card board boxes. Watch the kids as they explore their ideas and make them come to life!
